Meet Linda

Linda Hines MBE, is Resident Director/Chair at Witton Lodge Community Association

Linda’s involvement began when 908 homes, including her own, had to be demolished.

Linda said:

“It’s been 33 years at Witton Lodge for me, and it was a turning point in my life. The community has become my extended family, and we’ve achieved extraordinary things together. Residents made it happen here, and they can make it happen anywhere with the right support and guidance.

Erdington is complex with its various wards, but the people are wonderful. As part of Witton Lodge Community Association, we’ve engaged with residents across all wards, and there’s joy in sharing and working together. It’s about the community spirit and the pride we have in our area.

The small things matter. A 10-minute conversation can change perspectives. It’s about explaining the reasons behind decisions and helping people understand. For example, we’ve turned a traffic island into a park-like space with wildflowers, and once people understood the benefits, they appreciated it.

Treat people equally and with respect. Understand that there’s often more behind a person’s request or complaint. Be personable and open and remember that housing management is about more than just the buildings; it’s about the people and the community.

I’ve gained confidence and a sense of empowerment through this work, and I encourage others to take that step and make a difference.”
